88: Behind the Scenes is a documentary exploring the creative journey, technical challenges, and unconventional production process behind 88, a one-take sci-fi action film developed for Wonder Studios' Beyond The Loop Season 2.
Through the personal experiences and creative perspectives of two producers, the documentary reveals how the project evolved from an ambitious idea into a fully realized cinematic experience. From early concept development to the final frame, it captures the experimentation, challenges, and decisions that shaped the film.
At the heart of the production is a newly developed hybrid pipeline built upon traditional 3D animation and Unreal Engine. Rather than relying on AI to generate the entire film, the team established its characters, environments, camera movements, and performances within a real-time 3D environment, selectively integrating generative AI to refine visual textures, atmosphere, and cinematic details.
This behind-the-scenes documentary offers an inside look at how human creativity, technical craftsmanship, and emerging AI technologies come together to push the boundaries of independent animation production.
